Kalk Bay
Two very different jobs happen at a Kalk Bay window. By day you're fighting the dazzle that bounces off False Bay from first light until the sun climbs clear of the water; by night, in the homes stacked above the strip, you'd rather the lounge wasn't lit up like a shop window. A roller blind handles both — the trick is choosing the right cloth for each opening.
Sunscreen mesh works like sunglasses for the window. Lowered, you still see the boats and the breakwater, but the hard morning shimmer is knocked right back — along with most of the UV that fades floors and upholstery. We bring several openness grades to the measure so you judge them against your own view, not a swatch card in a showroom.
Blockout cloth is the bedroom answer — genuine darkness against early summer sunrises over the bay, and a useful layer of insulation when winter fronts roll through. Want both on one window? A double bracket stacks a blockout and a sunscreen on the same opening, each on its own roll, so the room changes character with the day.
Every chain-operated blind leaves us with a child-safe tensioner fitted, cassette pelmets are available where you'd rather not see the tube, and wide glass can be split, linked or motorised as one span.
Think of it as a rate for every square metre of blind, put up. On a chain you are looking at R1,000 – R1,600 for that square metre, sunscreen, blockout or light-filter alike: the plainer cloths sit near the bottom, a view-keeping mesh or a twin bracket carrying both near the top. With a tube motor the rate becomes R2,500 – R3,800, and that carries the motor, the control and the pairing-up on the day.
One caution before the arithmetic. A narrow cottage pane still needs its own tube, its own coastal-grade fittings and its own trip up the ladder, so there is a floor price on small openings. Nothing above is a quotation: the free measure produces one, window by window, in writing.
